| Is this a HIPAA violation? My husband and I are insured under COBRA through my former employer. A couple of weeks ago, the HR Manager called to inform me that my former employer was changing health insurance carriers as of July 1. My husband was facing some medical treatments early in July. Because of this, I shared this information with the HR Manager and asked for any help she could give me in expediting my enrollment application and the issuing of my insurance ID cards or group/subscriber numbers. Several days later, I received an e-mail from an ex-employee of this same company. The ex-employee wrote that she had run into the HR Manager who had told her that my husband was having some medical issues. Have my HIPAA rights been violated? If so, what recourse do I have? |
