Having a car smogged in California

My daughter needs to sell her 1992 Sable in CA. It is not CA smog compliant. It is worth less than 2K. It is too expensive to drive it back to TN to sell. How does she proceed?

California is the toughest on smog so that could be hard unless maybe she is willing to sell it for under 2,000. as is. Then she might be able to find somebody to buy it. Under $1,000. somebody might buy it for parts.

I'll see if I can come up with anything else.

I know if it doesn't pass and you sell it you have to make 100% certain that every piece of paper from the ad to the contract of sale says that it is for parts only - then let the buyer decide whether to repair it or not. It has to be sold as non-operative, parts only.

Exactly and even if you don't sell it as parts you have to disclose all problems along with the as is

You may be able to get the state to "retire" the car. California runs some programs to remove older, polluting cars from the roads. Take a look here: Background Material: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - (SB 501) Voluntary Accelerated Vehicle Retirement Programs

yeah that is right, I remember hearing that Texas has a program where they offer a couple thousand dollars for getting rid of cars that don't fall within the pollution standards.
