Father with SSI.Can my child get it?

My baby's father recieves SSI checks. Does this mean he doesn't have to pay child support? Does this mean my child could be able to recieve a check also?

About Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Your child must first be deemed the father's child. Did you have a DNA test done yet?

You should contact the SSI Office to proceed further.

Is the father's (if he's proven to be, as twinkiedooter pointed out) SSI his only source of income? If so, why? I believe that SSI is exempt from garnishment, though this may not apply in the case of child support. The reason I ask why SSI is his only source of income is because if you do pursue a judgment of child support against him, his ability to work (or not) due to disabilities, etc., will play a big role in determining his support obligation.
