discrimination at walmart

My mother who is a grandmother of 12 children. She went to Walmart to pick up a prescription for her 2 yr old grandson b/c my sister was having to admit her 1 yr old daughter to the hospital and wasn't able to get it herself. The children are currently covered by Medicaid b/c she is a single mother who is working but doesnt have medical insurance. Anyway my mother had to wait over 2 1/2 hours for the prescription and when she asked why it was still not filled, she was told by the cashier that "paying customers came first". Of course this upset her and when she then spoke to the Pharmacist in charge he told her that Medicaid customers were not their first priority. Well of course she told them that it should be first come first serve, as the prescription was called in from the physicians office at 8:30 that morning. When my mother let them know that he needed his asthma medicine and antibiotics and they needed to get it now, they threatened to have security walk her out.
Since I work in the medical field I know that Medicaid doesnt pay as well as some commerical insurance companies, but they do get paid. This type of treatment is not right, my question is: Is this a form of discrimination?

Yes it is. Feel better?

The next question is what do you want to do about it? You could contact a lawyer and maybe file a federal discrimination suit, but you would have to have some proof that she was told this.

I would be more inclined to call up the local newspaper or TV station. They eat up stories like that.

Yes, I Guess That Is A Good Suggestion, The Local Media Would Probably Have A Field Day With This. There Was Proof, The 2 Customers Behind My Mother Who Were Just As Apalled At Their Behavior As She Was. Thanks For The Advice
