I have lately been harrassed by collection agencies about credit card debt that was retired in 1997 and 2002. The debt was paid to collection agencies at an agreed upon discount. In both cases, once the debt was paid, the harrassment ended. A year ago, a collection agency began badgering me to pay the loan (actually my ex wife's debt) all over again. Do I have do a forensic search of a closed joint account to find the checks, or has the statute of limitations expired on one or both of these accounts? I live in Louisiana.
