Community property law

I reached a injury settlement with an insurance company. They say, that because I live in Arizona, which is a community property state, that the draft and settlement check has to be in both my wifes and my name. Is this true or are they trying to settle both our claims at the same time. My wife hasnt even started her claim yet. These claims are from an auto accident.

Sounds right to me. Just make sure the paperwork refers to your claim number only.

The claim number has been the same for both of our medical and our vehicle damages.

Then you need to make sure the paperwork differentiates. If the insurer is paying you off separately, you should have some different coding.
