I was caught without a driver's license.

I'm 19 and I live in Tennessee. A few weeks back I was caught passing a car in a no passing lane and I was pulled over. They gave me a ticket for no drivers livense and passing on double lines. The cop told me if I could get my license by the court date he would let it go but I won't be able to get my license by then. I was wondering what sort of fines I will have to pay or if I will have to go to jail or what?

You want to get your license by court date. Why can't you get it ?

You go take the test and get your license.

It will be a large fine most likely and you won't be able to get your license for some period of time ( right to get will be suspended)

This officer is trying to be very nice to you ( very unusual)

Did you tell the officer you just didn't have your license on you? Or were you operating under a learner's permit? Or, hopefully not, you had no official approval to operate a motor vehicle. If the latter, then check with the Tenn DMV. The fine schedule will probably be listed on their WEB site somewhere. It may even be listed on the citation you received.

Sorry that the US is so hard on driving.

I was involved in a motorcycle accident were a car hit me. I was young and I was scared. Not only because of the massive amount of damage (and I thought I would be at fault) but because I did not have a licence- never did, never applied for one, nah dah.

I received a $50 fine (for no liscense) and the other driver's insurance covered all loses including $2000 to me because I sustained a small leg injury that made me limp for a couple of days.

I'm not sure about the US, but in Canada the cops rarely show up to court for traffic violations and drivers get a free pass for just showing up.

Best luck to you!

I doubt that you'll go to jail. Check the motor vehicle code for Tennessee to determine the amount of fines you'll pay.

If you do not pay your fines- they will send out a "warrant" for your arrest. Just pay the fines- whatever they are.

Call the Court, ask how much the fines are, you wont go to jail unless you fail to show up for say a court appearance, so show up if required. Maybe go online to the DMV for TN, might find the cost there or call the Police Dept that wrote you the ticlet.
