Can Pa. Stop my Calif. driving privleges after 23plus yrs.

I resently sent in my California drivers license renewl check and recieved a letter back telling me my driving privleges were suppended or revoked in PA. After retriveing a file number for PA to locate the file They informed me I owed them a 1yr 3mo. driveing suppention, because my license was never recieved by them. This was in 1984 I am real sure my card was surrenderd to the officer who arrested me. I believe I even told the judge 23yrs ago. What if anything can I do I need my driving rights to work . I CAN'T afford a lawer. thank you suzi

I would send a letter to the CA license folks and just ask them what the statute of limitations is on this kind of situation, it can't be 23 years. maybe calling will work but get the name of the person you speak to each time and kep notes of your conversations.

well to be onest I doubt that anyone at the DMV will be very helpful, I find even in person they are rude at best. But can they, well it appears they have. I would say that you need an attorney and getting a drivers license back may be worth it ( unless you like riding the bus)

I think your choices are retaining an Attorney or not driving a car - sounds like you are between a rock and a hard place.

Many states do have reciprocal arrangements that honor driving restrictions from one state in another. With computerization and increasingly easier sharing of info, such things are being caught more and more often.

I would start off with letters to both the CA and PA DMvs asking how this can be resolved and see what happens.
