| Can my lease be broken? I've been renting a room in a 5 bedroom house in VA. Our landlord didnt give us the refrigerator, washer/dryer, and furniture until a month after we moved in. The floor near one of the bathrooms has a huge leak and the wood around it is rotting. We have asked him time and time again to fix it but he hasnt. He always comes over unannounced with male friends and this is an all female house. Our lease clearly states that we need 24 hour notice before he can come over. One of my housemates and I signed the lease together and I think that your supposed to sign next to every number and we didnt do that, so does that make the lease non-binding. Also, my housemate, the one who signed the lease with me moved out and he sent her an eviction notice and he is still trying to charge her for the room while moving someone else in. If he moves someone else in, and takes their money while still charging my old housemate, does that make our lease null and void? There is just simply so much going wrong in this house with this landlord. Is there anything that can be done to break the lease, because I am trying to move out as well? |
