being sued for Credit card debt

I was with a guy who ran up debt in my name, we then got married and then divorced. He was going to pay the debt(HAHA) He did not and I moved away and I forgot all the debt . now they want all this money from me that I dont have.I have a new husband and they say they are going to sue me. The debt is from around 2000 and is from Va. Now I live in Tn. I have no idea what I can do. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY IT OFF. What is the law in Tn about the debt?
