Bank levy

I am 59 years old and have been through some difficult times recently. Today I learned that my bank account had a levy placed on it. There was only $533. in the account but it is all the money I have. Is there anything I can do to get it back. As a side note the bank took $100. as a processing fee.

If a levy was imposed its because someone has a judgement against you and found the assets. The time to fight this was when you were sued and taken to court. now its pretty much too late. You can try going back to the court that issued the judgement and asking them to vacate it.

Hello df:

Scott is right. But a $100 processing fee from your bank is outrageous. I would ask for it back. If you don't get it from the first person you ask, ask their boss.

ScottGem agrees: Good point, however, if this fee is stated in the bank's fee schedule, they may not give it back. Banks hate garnishments. Just makes more hassles for them.
