    That may vary. I think most hot water heaters have a normal mark that give about 140 F. If you don't have a dishwasher and always have plenty of hot water, you might turn it down a little. This is a very good idea if you have young children or elderly in the house. If you have a dishwasher, set it at at least normal. If you frequently run out of hot water, you might set it higher. Even without children or elderly, you might consider anti scald fixtures.

    Hot water heaters are set at 120 F. from the factory.  Contrary to popular belief increasing the temperature won't give you more hot water.  It just raises your water heater expense. Labman gave you good advice about anti-skald faucets if your water heater temperature is set high.  If you have to run cold water to cool down water out of your tap the temperture's set too high and it's costing you money you need not spend.  I live alone and keep mine at 110 F. That way I don't have to run cold water when I shower.  Have a good week end,  Tom

    I Would Set The Heater At 120 Degrees F. You Can Get Scalded At 130 Degrees F. And Yes You Can Obtain Hotter Water By Increasing The Thermostat.
