I agree with Kraiz.

I cut in quite a few driveways with the equipment and use stone with quarry dust mixed in. That makes a solid driveway and it also the base for an asphalt driveway. Is there a depression there already? 6" to 8" of crushed stone is all you need.

I think the "oil" you grandfather did was on crushed stone.

If there is room in overhead clearance for a tri axle truck to set his gate and drive and spread stone which greatly reduces the cost to spread it with a machine.

The trick here is to get the neighbors to kick in for cost.

Naw.....pay for it all then set up a toll booth and charge $2 bucks to leave and enter the driveway.

Thought the one house was a boarding home being 9 kids. Is this a new problem? What was it like before?

Crushed stone is the only material I know to use here.

21boat has it right. Crushed stone is different from gravel. It will compact and make a roadbed. Gravel will sink in a couple of years.

Put down soybean extract to eliminate dust. We had sprayed on our driveway for $0.66 per square yard and we were dust free for 3 years. It tightened up the drive almost like concrete and stopped water washouts on the hill as well. Product is eventually biodegradable and environmentally safe. Company was in Indianapolis called Dustkill. Excellent product but needs to be reapplied about every 3 years.
