Dear Martin :
Do you really think that with so little information anyone can provide real advice?
Why don't you start with some background information?
What is the history of that cottage?
When did you move in?
When did the smell occur first?
What else did you already try to stop the smell?
What makes you suggest there is a well under the cottage?
Where is that cottage located? (State, conditions - NO street address)
Etc.

MOWERMAN2468 disagrees: do not give such information as addresses on the internet. good move o.p. not giving the info of address.

Of course that is plenty of information. The first thing I would do is contact my local health department. They will either be able to test the water, or get you in contact with someone that can test your water.

And another thing, it is not wise to put personal info on the net and should not be done. So of course they did not put a street address.

Credendovidis disagrees: I adviced NOT to post that personal information ...
babysteps : balancer: the 'questions' were irrelevant any way

But knowing that of course I did not ask for that!
Actually I warned NOT to post that sort of personal information.
So why and what are you here harping around for?

See my post, where I stated (literally) :
