Staph Infection

Is it rare to die from a Staph Infection?

How are you sure if you have one? Because anyone can have a pimple that is red, pus filled and swollen.

*EDIT*
Is this normal Staph Infection?

A furuncle (pronounced: fyoor-un-kul), commonly known as a boil, is a swollen, red, painful lump in the skin, usually due to an infected hair follicle. The lump usually fills with pus, growing larger and more painful until it ruptures and drains. Furuncles are most frequently found on the face, neck, buttocks, armpits, and inner thighs, where small hairs can often be irritated. A cluster of several furuncles is called a carbuncle (pronounced: kar-bun-kul). A person with a carbuncle usually feels ill and feverish.

Sweet, there are many different strains of staph. While it is rare, it is becoming more common lately. MRSA (Methacillin Resistance Staphyloccous Aureus) is becoming more and more prevalent these days. It used to be a hospital acquired infection only, but has migrated to the outside community.

Hun, last night in the hospital I cared for a little one, one year old, who had it. I have had it, my son has had it.

While it does happen, it is rare, why do you think it made the news? You only hear the rare stuff on the news.

If you are afraid of it, and you should be, you need to learn proper hand washing techniques to help prevent it.

How are you sure if you have one? You need to go to the doctor and have the doctor culture the puss that comes out of the "pimple." That is the only way to be sure if it is or if it isn't.

Hun, you have to have direct contact with the bacteria. You have to come in contact with someone who has it. You can't get it from a desk, or a chalk board.

It possible to get it that way. But remember good handwashing is the key to good health. ALWAYS wash your hands.

Baby wipes won't help. Sorry, but they don't. You need to use proper handwashing techniques, that means using soap, preferably antibacterial, and very warm, not hot, running water.

Now, for your pimple, don't pop it. Once you do you have broken the skin and risk opening it up to infection.
