period longer than a week normal?

im 20 years old..and i have had my period since i have been 9 years old..and i've had irregular periods for pretty much the whole time i have had my period..and i was wondering if its normal to have a period for like a week and a half?

How long is your period normally? Is it an even flow? Or light at the beginning, heavy, then light? I also have irregular periods (even on the pill). I once had one two weeks long. My doctor just said, "That sucks" and sent me home with midol.

my period is normally 5-7 days..it was light in the begining and then it felt like it wasnt gonna end..it was light the first 2 days and then the rest was heavy
