Does it effect my enamel?

I recently went to the dentist and was told that I had a thin enamel layer on my teeth. The dentist told me that she didn't know what caused it, because I don't eat a lot of candy, I don't drink a lot of pop, or wine. I want to know if it could be because I brush my teeth to often? Can someone please tell me??
