Bacterial Vaginosis

Asked Sep 24, 2007, 03:21 PM — 29 Answers
I have a lot of discharge and fishy smell. About 5 yrs ago I noticed it for the 1st time. I was treated then for BV. It never really went away and I went to 4 other doctors within about 3years and they all told me I was fine and that everything was normal. I totally disagree. This cannot be normal! I thought maybe women just go through this as they get older and I just tried to live with it. I have to shower two times a day and I always wear panty liners. After asking my mother and other people about this it doesn't seem to be normal and after looking it up online I am pretty sure its BV. The only office that ever told me that I had this before was planned parenthood and I wanted to go there again but I have to wait two weeks before I can go. Is there ANYTHING I can do to at least help with the symptoms? I am so desperate to get rid of this! Please! Any advice is appreciated.

Hun, as you have learned there is never a dumb question, only dumb answers. LOL

Yes, stop the FDS as it may be part of the problem. Perfumes and colognes can cause this too.

Unfortunately I don't think Planned Parenthood can prescribe antibiotics (I may be wrong, it's just been a long time since I visited one). But the cure for BV is antibiotic therapy. You can try yogurt to help restore the vaginal flora, but it is not a cure.

Without a cure BV can turn into PID (pelvic inflammatory disease), which in turn can cause sterility, and possibly even more serious conditions, including different forms of pelvic cancers.

If you like, and you are in the US, I can try and help you find a practitioner in your area who may take payments.

Stop the FDS and you don't really need any soap for your private parts especially considering your condition. Simply use some warm water.

There are a lot of products on the market for our "odor" and it all does is cause more odor and infections. All you are doing is introducing foreign items into your vagina. The biological/chemical balance in our vaginal area is VERY sensitive. You are adding lots of things to this area that are causing problems.

If you feel that you need soap I think something like cetaphil will be good since its so gentle and completely ph balanced. Do not use anything with fragance. I would even switch your laundry detergent to the "free" detergent (no dyes, perfumes, etc)

I new that 5-6 yrs was way to long that's why I had to start asking other people no matter how embarrassing! Online is much better LOL! I still want to have another baby and I am afraid that I am going to be to late if something doesn't happen soon. It may already be too late. I'm going back to the clinic next week and I will make sure I ask and or suggest to them to do a C&S if they are not already! Thank you very much!

Oh my! Yes yes yes! If you actually found a doc that could help and who would take reasonable payments I would be forever grateful, I am so so so sick of the clinics!

I am addicted to helping others become proactive in their health. After my cancer and no one would help me, I decided to help others. It may take time, and I can't promise anything, but I can at least give it a try, get you names and numbers. Okay?

If you have Bacterial Vaginosis, it won't respond to any of those treatments for yeast! What you need is a a prescription for flagyl. BV is often hard to detect so you must tell your doc that is what you suspect and why based on your history. Often they only know because of the smell.

I Have tried flagyl before with little or no results. The next doctor I see I will tell them my whole history and tell them exactly what I think it is as I have in the past. Hopefully this time something other than yeast will be detected and I will be able to get a Rx.
