No sound from TV using DVD player

Asked Jun 13, 2009, 06:30 AM — 12 Answers
Just renting this apt that has a 1999 Phillips TV model #PL9127C101. The TV has only a coax cable hook-up and no remote. When I hook it up to a RF modulator and the DVD player, I can get it to play on Channel 14 but no sound. I have tried a different modulator and DVD player and get the same results. Also the TV does not display Channel 3, just Channel 4, but that is a local station. Any suggestions?

Try manually entering channel 3.
And you tried channel 14?

On some DVD players audio playback is not available via the coax. It is provided via separate audio output jacks. Especially older models. If you are getting video playback, you have the right channel selected. So this is the likely cause of your problem.

Look for a pair of red and white jacks, like on a stereo. Hopefully your TV will have a corresponding audio input.

The coax cable is only run between the RF modulator and the TV. I am using the 3 RCA jacks for the connection between the DVD player and the modulator. Is this the right way?

Verify the Audio out from DVD goes into Modulator Audio input.
Is modulator able to be set to a different channel?

No there is no option to set the modulator to a different channel. I think I need to be able to get the Phillips TV is work on channel 3, but there is no owners manual available to tell me how to do that. Even with a universal remote control, the features list that comes up is limited to closed captions and sleep timer. Now what?

No there is no channel selection on the modulator. Since I am having problems now with the dtv converter getting set-up. I can not select channel 3 which I am told I need to have for the dtv converter..Maybe the same holds for getting the DVD player working. Only problem is I do not know how to reprogram the TV to allow it to select channel 3. Any ideas?
