computer asking for installation cd for usb

hi all,

looking for advice my computer has xp windows etc and i ahve been using an imation usb for years on it. I have recently been putting other friend's usb into the computer and the install help box pops up. the computer refuses to recognise the usb without me installing a cd etc for the device. As there is no installation cd this then leads to me not being able to use my usb?!! any advice would be appreciated!
Is there a way to deactivate the help box?

cheers.

not sure as to "deactivating" the help box. you may need to install a driver for the usb. google "(manufacturer) driver" and install the required driver.

What are you trying to install? A "usb" doesnt mean anything, USB is the type of connector, what is the device?

As said above, the manufacturer should have drivers on their website, even for older pieces of hardware.

thanks for those comments.
I have downloading an install driver but no luck. My computer is XP and only drivers are provided for windows 98.
It is a imation flashdrive usb 1gb.
I have had a friend look at it and he said my windows automatic installer is malfunctioning and not working properly! which means the driver contained on the flashdrive isnt loading! any advice on how to get windows autoinstaller working?!
