What did you want to be when you grew up?
A friend of mine and I were talking the other day about what we wanted to be when we were kids. We then compared this to what we are currently doing with our lives. I want to know what you wanted to be when you grew up. Why did you want to do that occupation and how does it compare to what you are currently doing?

The earliest memory I have is around 6 and I wanted to be a "Scientist". I didn't realize there were so many types, I thought you could just study as many subjects as you wanted. :D

After that, I focused in on healthcare and eventually computers. I found the perfect mix, and here I am in a techy position of healthcare.

Gee, I remember having a conversation with a friend of mine when I was in my 20's (1970's) about how on
The Art Linkletter Show he would ask all the little kids what they wanted to be when they grew up and they all replied, Firemen, Policeman, Ice cream truck driver, etc...
We decided we must have grown up deceived by the show cause A.) who ever said they wanted to be a garbage man or work for any waste management. B.) we couldn't find anything but two bit chump change jobs.
I wanted to do something that would help people or a private investigator.
What am I doing now at 52?
    Odd jobs
I still would like to start something where I can help people but it takes money to make money! I would like to be able to have a big building so I could have a second hand store and have a large room for different types of classes like domestic abuse, coffee house, weight management, and so forth and start a trading system for low income and poorer people.

I wanted to be a marine biologist... then I discovered I have a fear of getting lost in deep water. That cured me. Then I wanted to become a teacher and teach oversees to impoverished nations. Well, I have the degree... what unfortunately having a family put my plans on hold. My biggest joy in life besides my children is helping others. I still want to volunteer locally. I have considered teaching biology labs to high school students on a volunteer basis... kinda like Ms. Wizard. I also would like to teach English to immigrants. Boy, my ambition list is long... I better get cracking. :O)

Oh, in my adrenaline junky teenage years... I wanted to work for the CDC and go into the hot zones. Talk about hormones affecting your judgement...

Star3114 agrees: So, what does a health care techie do on a daily basis? I am intrigued.
I work in a clinic and deal with patients, yet I control a computer system used to monitor/track chemotherapy meds and billing units. I also train nurses to use machinary and computers. My job was sort of "invented" for me as I fill in the gaps of necessary duties. ;)

What I wanted to be - a vet! I was sadly not quiet smart enough.
What I am now - on my way to be a research scientist (stuctural biology or biochemistry to the layman)
What I want to be when I really grow up (I'm still young!) a policewoman
Just need to get fit and learn to drive... I have a considerable lack of talent in both activities.

No help-I always was fascinated with that too... I love tracking storms when they blow through. Have fun in your new venture and remember to be safe at all times. It can be lethal if you don't keep your head about you.

I wanted to be a political analyst and on the news like Walter Cronkite. But my parents said girls to do not that. In their world, which was my world, girls either became a nun, a nurse, or a teacher. They really pushed hard on the nun - every family generation had at least individual in monastic life. Big time honor for the family. It was not my design. Lol.

What do I do now? Full time Mom and part time health care worker. I guess everything in life led to this role. Poorest paying job, monetary wise but I am rich.

All throughout my elementary, middle school and high school years, I had the dream to become an astronaut. In high school I had it all planned out! I was going to join the air force, go to college after that and major in aerospace engineering, and then go to Dallas to train to become a mission specialist astronaut. I decided to hold off on the Air Force and go straight to college. I liked engineering but somewhere in the back of my mind teaching kept popping up. I realized that space and aerospace was my passion but making a difference in the lives of children was something that overcame that... so I changed my major to elem. Education! I LOVE it!! Yes, I still enjoy star gazing and having long talks about the discoveries of Steven Hawking! A little piece of my heart wishes that I followed my first dream but most of my heart is with my second!
