telling roommate im out. and taking everything.

I just got a new teaching job in a near by city and the hour commute each way is killing me. I'm also putting almost 100 miles a day on my car. My roommate is a slob... and I'm just sick of teaching all day... dealing with kids... driving forever home and then having to clean up after a lazy girl to have a clean house or a dish to eat off of. My boyfriend and I have decided to move in together closer to my work (and his) and have found a nice place.

My lease isn't up for another 4 months. So I'm going to hold my end of the bargain and pay my rent in the current place until it's out.

The problem is telling the roommate. All of the bills are in my name so I'm transferring them so I don't have to pay deposits again and all of the furniture in the common areas is mine as well... not to mention dishes and other household items... so when I move it's going with me. How do I let her know what's going on? And do I need to help her pay bills? I think not... but boyfriend thinks I should contribute since I'm just leaving suddenly...

start off with telling her how it is more convenient for you to be closer to work.

You aren't responsible for her utility bills once you are moved and they are out of your name.
If you (or anybody) finds somebody to take your place you shouldn't be responsible for any futher rent either.

UPDATE: I did move out and agreed to still pay rent. This worked out great until recently. Her boyfriend however has moved from another state into the apartment without contributing rent or anything.

I talked to her about him paying half because he is now living there. I also think that it is unfair for me to pay for him a place to live. She keeps insisting that he hasn't moved yet. I know this is a complete lie considering he has moved all of his stuff in, has changed his phone number and started an new job in town.

Another issue is to stay move than 10 days in our apartment complex means that you are a tenant. There are not allowed to be tenants that havent had background checks done on them. It is breaking our lease and we could be evicted.

What can I do to get him to fork over what he should be? And how do I make sure we dont get evicted??
