| smoking housemates I live in a sharehouse. I've been living there happily for a few months now. There are four in the house including me, and two of them smoke.
Until now that's been fine, since they only smoked outdoors, but for the past few days the two smokers have started smoking inside one of their bedrooms. (They're dating). This has been really bothering me, since that room is next to mine, and it's an old house with gaps in between the walls and the floor. (You can't see the gaps, but I sometimes see cockroaches crawl under the walls, and anyway, I can smell their smoke). So for the past few days I've been woken up really early in the morning by the smoke smell, with a bit of a sore throat and have just had to leave. My room smells pretty bad, and I worry that my clothes will start to smell. I don't know whether this is a permanent change, but three days in a row seems to suggest it may be.
I haven't said anything yet, since I don't know what is reasonable. Is it reasonable for them to have to smoke outside just because I want it? Am I being fussy/weak for feeling like their smoking is affecting me alot? Maybe I should be less sensitive. (I've always been a bit of a sickly type so am a bit self-conscious about it). And it is THEIR room I suppose... but then it's affecting my room, so I don't know what to think.
Also, I'm moving cities in about four months, so I don't want to move and then move again, but I don't know if I'd be able to stand living there if they keep smoking in their room. Does anyone have any experience or opinions to share?
Thanks. |
