I have a seemingly perpetual problem locating my birth certificate. As it currently stands, my original copy is being held by a parent in a safety deposit box so I am unable to obtain it. This is an issue whenever I attempt to obtain a new ID. I couldn't order the document independently since my address is a shared PO box and that parent would know I had defied her. Also, shortly after turning 18, I ordered a copy through an online website yet I was told after faxing a photocopied image of my ID that I had insufficient proof of who I was. I didn't know what else to do and I only had a short time frame to obtain it then.

As it currently stands, I have a temporary address and will be capable of receiving mail. However, I'm still thousands of miles away from where I was born so I cannot appear in person. Besides, I'm not sure which hospital I was born in.

PLEASE if you have any idea how I can fix this would you tell me?

It doesn't matter which hospital. I recently ordered mine online from NC. I had to give my maiden name, my mother's maiden name, my father's full name, my date of birth, the NC city and county of birth. I remember it was $12-$15 per certificate.

Why can't you have a certified copy of your birth certificate????

I was born in Indiana. Actually, the link they provide on that website referred to the company I previously attempted to order the certificate from. According to the email I received, the reason they wouldn't release my certificate was due to the fact I couldn't produce a second form of identification in addition to my drivers license.

Call the county courthouse in Indiana. Certainly a clerk will tell you what IDs are acceptable, so you can get together what you need. I helped our resident library homeless guy get certified copies of his, partly with a phone call to the county clerk.

I am still wondering why you aren't allowed a birth certificate (by your mother).

You can get Birth Certificates directly from the state.

What is the reason your parent will not allow you to get a copy of it ?
Plus if you are over 18 get your own PO Box and so on.
