    Actually, you now speak of 120 VAC and 240 VAC.

    The term "AC" stands for "Voltage Alternating Current"

    Homework? Since 220 was used, maybe not.

    V is for Volts. AC means Alternating Current
    220 V doesn't usually exist in the US anymore,it's 120/240.

    It's not complete: 240 Vrms AC +-5%, 60 Hz
    Frequency tolerences for the mains are quite good, but for appliance inputs you may see 50/60 Hz.

    You also might see 90-285 VAC 50/60 Hz.

    RMS stands for Root-Mean-Square. I'm not going to get into the Calculus, but AC meters can be True RMS meters or Average responding RMS reading and they are correct only for sine wave inputs.

    A 120 V RMS signal has the same heating value as a 120 V DC signal when applied to the same resistive load.
