IQ Vs Inventions/Discoveries

I have begun compiling information on famous scientists, inventors, and mathematicians. I am attempting to relate IQ to creativity and world-changing discoveries. My theory is that leaps in technology or any field are mostly made by persons with very high IQ's and then above average persons develop and apply those discoveries to produce products used by advanced people to create things that we all use. Granted, there is what I call flash genius, where an average person has a flash of an idea. There are also accidental discoveries by trial and error type activities. I am trying to prove that most discoveries are by geniuses.

Does anyone have any data or information regard my theory?
