I think my cp has a virus.

I have no idea what to do here... when I turn on my cp on regular mode the screen is red and has a hazard sign and all these spyware things start coming up and I cant do anything cant go onto the internet nothing it wont really do anything but just a whole bunch of pop ups...what do I do...Im on safe mode now...whatever that means...If someone can lead me on the right path on what to do that would be great!!! thanks

Get a copy of AVG antivirus, install it and run a full scan!

Ok.. After I do the full scan what?? If it has a virus or something then what do I do ?? Would that program take care of the problem??

A virus or other program must use the registry editor to auto-start up every time your computer restarts. So, for example, if you opened a virus that didn't write anything to the registry, and you restarted your computer, that virus wouldn't start-up again and your problem would be solved.

System Restore sets your registry back to the date you tell it to. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and find a date you know the virus wasn't on. Keep in mind that the virus may have disabled this feature, but I have heard numerous comments over time online and this is the first thing a lot of tech-savvy guys do when they're having infection trouble.

Time to do some serious maintenance on your machine:

System maintenance includes:

Defrag is an inbuilt function in XP.
Open My Computer > Right click C: > Tools Tab and its there.

To make sure everything is running fine run both anti virus and anti spyware apps in normal AND safe modes. (make sure that they are updated first !

(A couple of good removal tools are Spybot and Adaware)

ALso an on line virus and spyware scanner is Trend Housecall

Just a note: actively running two AV's on one machine can cause problems.
So if you are thinking about it make sure your current one is disabled first.
Same thing applies to online scanners as well.

If all this fails then a repair install may be in order:

Basically this installs windows over the top of your current setup.
So you don't loose any information you already have.

This lot should resolve your issue.
