Reinstall CD brings up blank screen?
I've been having problems with my fax capability and want to reinstall the Drivers and Utilities for Reinstalling V.9X 56K Data/Fax Modem software for Microsoft Windows from the CD supplied with my Dell (Dimension 4600) computer. When I insert the disk, I just get a blank screen. What can I do?

    Reinstall
    Hi,
    Here is a link:
    http://support.dell.com/support/topi...ent?dn=1090520

Scroll down to the "Reinstalling the Fax Modem......". This link might give you an idea. The first step is to be sure the modem in connected to a good phone line jack.
    Then insert the install CD.
If this doesn't help, please post back, and good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I verified that I have a modem connected and think it is connected to a good phone line because my ISP works fine and it is connected through it. I again inserted the reinstall CD and, after waiting a very long time, I still have a blank screen with the notation that it is "Downloading from site" at the bottom of the screen. Also, my task bar at the bottom of the screen disappeared so I can't get to the Start button, etc. Now what?

    Modem
    Hi, klc,
The only other suggestion I have is to uninstall the modem first.
You can try the Add/Remove Programs, see if it's listed, then uninstall it.
Or, try the Control Panel/System/Device Manager, remove it from there.
It could be that doing an uninstall, then reinstalling the modem will then allow the rest of the installation to proceed.

I'm afraid that, if I uninstall it, since the cd doesn't work, I would be left without a modem connection and the capability to reinstall it!
