Need Help with Win95&98

This would help if u worked for Microsoft at the time but I am openfor anything I need to know why when I goto install win95 it works good until after the license agreement is signed then a black screen appears then with win98 after it prepares for setup it goes to ready my floppy drive when I am using the cd-rom then a black box appears? It use to have win98se it was a piece of junk then the hard drive crashed and I had to wipe it now it has Dos 6.2 as it's OS and Windows3.1 as it's shell the disk says it is the upgrade version but it says it is made for a system with no OS. Also I put a faster interneal modem in there and installed it like it said in the instructions but when it tries to dial it says Gateway2000 33.6kbs modem reports that there is no dial tone I really need help this is driving me insane and this Dell latitude XPi CD wont last long to wht my parents want to do it has already crashed 2 times in 1 month any help will be apprieciated.

If you are getting a message that the version needs to be installed on a system without an OS, then its not an Upgrade version. Is the disk label that says "Upgrade" an official Microsoft label?

Not sure why the WIN 95 craps out on you. Again are you working with original disks or burnt copies?

If the modem doesn't find a dial tone, it may not be plugged correctly into a wall jack.

hi matey,

did you format the hard disk before trying to run 95? coz far as i know, your 98 has perfomed some internal deep upgrades which may interfere with any future installations. a regular problem when trying to install an older version. worry about the modem when your program is up and running. in contol panel/system/device manager or hardware, you can disable the floppy. although sound more to me like you got something lying in the hard disk that dont wanna get itself degraded. cheers, borg-matrix

Win95

Hi,
I use Win98SE; and love it. It runs older programs that 2000 and xp won't.
If you do want to install Win95, here is a link with step by step on doing the installation.
There might be something you have missed, or that could help.

Best of luck,
fredg
