I have a 1968 JET magazine that a couple of friends told me is worth a pretty good amount of money because it has Martin Luther King Jr on it a day after his assassination so I'm looking to sell it, but don't know what to ask for it.

Hi, GF012262!
Just for reference here, is the image of the magazine below the same as the magzine that you have, please?
If it is, then I found it on the following site where the starting bid was $19.99.
Jet April 18 1968 Martin Luter King Legacy Issue - eBay (item 380068692920 end time Oct-06-08 18:02:57 PDT)
There were no bids on that one.
But, that was just on eBay...
If you click on the following search, then you'll be likely to find some additional sites with prices on them.
1968 Jet Magazine Dr. Martin Luther King eBay - Google Search
The magazine in the image that I provided isn't in all that great of shape. That might account for some of the reason that there were no bids on it.
If it were me, and I had a copy that was in mint or near mint condition, then the first asking price that I would try to sell it for would be probably $60.00 and then see if someone would want to er or haggle with me as far as the price.
In what kind of condition is the one that you have?
Thanks!
