1890's Wheeler & Wilson Sewing Machine

Asked Jul 3, 2007, 02:18 PM — 4 Answers
I have an old Wilson and Wheeler Sewing Machine from the 1890's. It is in very good condition. I believe it is the 5 drawer with a "coffin" cover. Does anyone know the approximate value? Thank you!

Here is a website where they buy antique sowing machines. It mentions yours, but says the dates on the machines aren't always accurate. Anyway, you could email them with a question.

antiqbuyer.com Carole Meeker internet antique buyer, buying antique sewing machines, I buy antiques

''Another important point is that sewing machines such as Wilcox & Gibbs' and most Wheeler & Wilson's, although they carry early patent dates, also carry much later patent dates and were produced well into the 19th and even 20th Century. They are bought mainly by beginning collectors and decorators, and their value is based more on their decorator appeal rather than on their historical significance. "

I would suggest checking out the answers on the following links. Please look at all of them. You will find helpful information there. There are a lot of factors that go into determining the "value" of the old machines.

Also, here is a quote from an answer on one of the links:

Quote:
A lot of people will say that the old machines don't have much value because they keep appearing in yard and garage sales, etc.

However, some of the machines from the early era of them can be quite beautiful in the artwork on the machines themselves and also in the cabinetry work.

They can make a nice display in the home if you get creative and put some things around them that are also from the same era from when they were made. Conversation pieces.

In my home, almost every piece of furniture has a story behind it.
Here, is another quote:

Quote:
Whether or not it has much monetary value depends on its condition, beauty and what someone would want to pay for it.
