I've been invited to an interview as a research assistant to a political analyst that I believe I would be well suited to, yet I haven't actually worked in this area before. Is there anyone with a background in this field who can talk about what they do on a day-to-day basis? Is there any advice you could give?

Of three positions available I submitted my resume for, this is the one they invited me to apply for which actually came as a bit of a surprise, as the others were more directly related to my background as an EA and administrator. I have some mixed feelings about it, mainly due to a lack of confidence through not having specific work experience as a research assistant. At the same time, it is something I would love to be immersed in doing and would not like to miss the chance of making this happen.
