| How can I get into the architecture world? I graduated two years ago with a B.S. in civil engineering. Within a year I will take the PE (Professional Engineer) exam to get my RCE (Registered Civil Engineer's) license in the state of California. In my field, there is an exam called the EIT or Engineer-in-Training (the first test before even qualifying to take the PE), where a person can legally perform engineering design services, while under supervision of an RCE, and gain valuable experience. Is there any exam similar to the EIT for Architects?
Architecture is a field I've wanted to try for over half my life. Now, at age 23, I fear that if I try to persure an architecture degree, I will have to put my personal life on hold for another 4 years. Is there a fast track to working in an Architecture firm? Accelerated master's program? Accreditation exam? What are the steps?
Landscaping and Structural Architecture are my main interests. I plan on also becoming an RSE (Registered Structural Engineer). If i decided to persue the new career, would the RSE title give me an edge in the architecture world? Currently, as an engineer without my license, I earn about $65,000/yr. After I get my RCE, I expect to earn about $85,000/yr. Is it a wise financial choice to make a career change? |
