how do i start my own insurance company

I'm looking to start my own insurance company, but don't know much about it. How do I go about getting licensed to sell insurance? Once I get licensed, will I then be able to open my own business and sell insurance policies?

for example to become a licensed insurance agent in TN, you have to have a number of class room hours in an approved pre licnese school, and pass a test. There are seperate tests for Health, Life, Property and Causalty insurnace. ( plus more for bonds, investments and so on)

for many companies you will have to work out of thier office or work under a local manager. For some companies, you will have to buy a agency from the company.

If you can tell me what state and what type of insurance you want to sell I may have some closer advice.
