Oracle Error 12560:tns Protocol Adapter Error

Hi,

Whenever I try to log in using SCOTT/TIGER userid, I get the error "ORA ERROR 12560:TNS PROTOCOL ADAPTER ERROR".

I tried starting the listener from administration-> services, but still the problem persists.

can you please suggest a solution?

and this doesn't happen when logging in as any other user?

are you using the correct connect string?

more info needed.. sqlplus at command prompt, tnsnames.ora file ..etc

I presume you are logging in from a different machine than your server, eh?

on the database server, start a command prompt and run
lsnrctl status and see if the listener is up and running.

try lsnrctl stop and lsnrctl start to restart the listener.

let us know what you get from the status command.
