Breach of Duty of Care

Hello

I joined a major insurance company 3 months ago (in the IT section) on a full-time basis. 2 months after I joined they announced that the company was being taken over by another major insurance company. I have not been asked to leave however the work in my section is running out, IT projects are being put on hold as Integration activities with the take over company are being sorted out.

Can I sue this company for breach of duty of care ? Firstlly, at the interview they did not disclose the take-over and secondly, why are they recruiting fulll-time employees when they know that as result of the merger, positions will be re-assessed by the take-over company?

These take-overs do not just happen over-night and I did go to a lot of effort to obtain this position. My referees were checked and I am unable to go back to my refeeres to explain that due to no fault of my own this company is now being taken over and I am out of work.
(I am still working there however they are saying that my section is now over-resourced even though they still have contractors working there).
