High blood pressure and how to lower it
I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes. Untreated my blood pressure ranges from 180/90 to 212/120. I am taking this very seriously. I also recently moved and have not been able as of yet to follow up with a Dr. so my question is this: What kind of diet/exercise program should I be on. I know I need to see a Dr. but this is the best I can do until I get a job.

Is your diabetes being treated? Are you insulin dependent? If so your local Diabetes Association will help you obtain medical care.

Your blood pressure is dangerously high - you need to see a Physician. Here is a site with helpful info: Preventing High Blood Pressure Tips: Diet and Lifestyle Changes.

I have high blood pressure and cutting out all table salt, reading bags and boxes to determine salt content, will drop mine several points. I am nowhere near as high as you are, though.

The combination of diabetes and high blood pressure is very dangerous.

Both are being treated for now, before I moved my Dr. had prescribed 6 months worth of medications. Even on the pills I still have a tendency for my blood pressure to be high though. I am not insulin dependent. Thank you for the information Judy.

Just be very, very careful about monitoring both your bp and your diabetes. When you live with either (or both) it's kind of easy to forget how serious they are.

I have both and manage quite well on low dose metformin, my fasting glucose level is 5 or 6 which is a normal reading for non diabetic; my blood pressure is a good 120/30. I have reduced my meds with a good diet and daily excersize. I am a 70 year old woman determined to stay healthy.

I have many clients who have both, plus high cholesterol and much older. I get them out walking every day.

It only takes 30 minutes a day of physical activity to make a great difference.

Tick - would you take a second look at the bp you posted?
