Fiber is an undigestible substance that comes from plants (mainly from their outer parts). There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble. Though both are undigestable, it is the insoluble fiber that help prevent constipation becaue it passes right through our intestines without changing form or breaking down. So, it essentially helps "push" the solids in our intestines out, promoting bowel movements. Insoluble fiber also cleans out toxic waste as well. There are many other benefits of fiber to health, that you can find by researching it on the internet.
You can get insoluble fiber mainly through dark green leafy vegetables, fruit skins and root vegetable skins, whole-wheat, wheat oat, corn bran, and seeds and nuts.

Hope this is helpful.

Fiber helps us detoxify our bodies, by traveling thru and picking up harmful substances like fats along the way and carries ts out. Otherwsie for instance the fats would be reabsorbed. Fiber helps increases the metabolic rate. Its really important to get both soluable and insoluable fiber in your diet. Insoluable helps provide "bulk" in our stools, therefore speeds things up.
