Craving salt

Hi,
I'm new to this site and found it while I was researching why I have a huge craving for salt. Let me give you a little info about my background (eating habits), so you don't tell me what I already know! When I crave salt, I usually think of soup! I'm mostly a vegetarian except for the craving of chicken noodle soup. But all soups sound and taste great whether they are vegan or not. I don't usually eat salty chips because they don't appeal to me. I like Gardettos which may or may not be lower in soduim.

I used to be able to eat whole wheat products until I found out why I was having all sorts of stomach problems. I experimented and found out I'm wheat gluten intolerant. That's bad for a vegetarian, since lots of vegan protien is provided by wheat. Ever since then, a few months ago, I've craved protien (obviously).

So I now eat fish about twice a week to help supplement my protien intake. But these last few weeks, I now crave salt! I crave it like I used to crave sweets. I want to eat it even when I'm not hungry. All I can think about is SALT, SALT, SALT! One more thing, I just started using Sea salt in place of regular table salt. It hasn't helped me.

Oh! Another important fact: I'M NOT PREGNANT! Many cravings are from pregnancy, but, and believe it or not, I haven't had sex in almost 3 years!! No sympathy necessary... it's my choice.

After all my gab, does anyone know why I could be craving salt? I'd really appreciate your help!

Please help me,
Where's the Salt Lick

Your body is craving salt partially because your body is lacking in certain nutrients. How's your sodium intake? I can imagine being a vegetarian with ciliac's isn't all that great...I'm actually wondering what you eat on a daily basis.

Have you recently had blood work done to see if you're getting all your nutrients?

Canned soups contain an overabundance of salt, but not the good kind of salt like sea salt. They also contain a lot of MSG which is probably more of what you are craving rather than salt. Read about MSG being added to just about every single processed food product and the adverse reactions to your body health wise and you'll have a better understanding of what's going on. I use Celtic Sea Salt - not just sea salt from the supermarket. Read up on celtic sea salt and you'll see the huge difference in what salt really is. It's not cheap but I find that 1 lb of celtic sea salt lasts me and my son about a year.

You are changing your diet so altering it by even a few new things can
cause different problems (not always). What I'm trying to say is your body was used
to eating how it used to and now that you changed it, your body wants to go back to
it's old habit. I know your confident and you won't, it's also probably because you ate alot of salt? Possibly. Now your body feels like it can't live without it. Well hope I helped somewhat. FIGHT BACK!
