Are chestnuts nuts

I would like to know if water chestnuts are nuts or vegetables as my doctor told me do not eat nuts. Are chestnuts safe for me?

Water chestnuts are not nuts...they are tubers. You should be able to eat them, but why not give your doctor's office a call if you're uncertain? Take care...
