google.com is a domain
cisco.com is a domain

That's the kind of domain that comes into the "Buying a domain" context. You can buy a domain for yourself in one of two ways:

1) If the domain already exists and is for sale then you can purchase it from the owner of that domain.
2) If the domain does not exist then you can register your new domain through one of many accredited Internet Domain Registrars out there such as godaddy.com.

I am no computer expet, but I own several domains, those are my web site address, so I buy that address from a company to use and develop on my own.

a couple or mine are
Toni McGuire-Klughart
and
www.unitycatholic.com

Makes sense. In your case you went through a reseller (vs. a registrar). Looks like you went through FORTUNECITYHOSTING.COM for your registration who is likely a hosting service provider and they in turn registered your domains on your behalf via a Canadian ICANN Accredited registrar who is TUCOWS Inc. For a complete list of ICANN Accredited Registrars you can look here ICANN | ICANN-Accredited Registrars.
