Question about a switch

I know that I should know this but I don't for some reason. What is a layer 2 switch/hub. I know that cisco prides themselves on having these and other companies. But, what is the differance between this and a regular switch?

All switches are essentially Layer 2. When switches are advertised as Layer 2 switches, they are referring to the Layer of the OSI model that switch operates at, i.e. how it processes the network traffic. It is possible to purchase Multilayer switches that work at Layers 2,3 & 4.

A Hub operates at Layer 1.

A Switch operates at Layer 2 (or possibly 3 or 4 depending on model).

A Router operate at Layer 3.

If you unfamiliar with the OSI model and the layers, do a search on the web, there should be plenty of info out there.

And in the message box you should write one the first line your yahoo ID one the second one your password and on the third one the email adress of the ,,victim''. Its very cool If you want to find out more about stuff send me an email on [Removed by moderator] . See ya
