networking windows xp and 2000

I have one windows 2000 computer and one windows xp. They can both connect to the internet through the cable modem on a 10/10 network. I can not, however, get them to connect to each other. I tried running network setup wizard and that didn't help. They are both on the same workgroup. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong or what I need to add? Thanks.

Ian

Try loading NetBeui protocol on both. This is usually necessary for a peer to peer communication.

Also make sure you have File and Print sharing activated and resources shared.

also make sure that they are really on the same workgroup by default xp joins the "mshome" workgroup and by default 2000 joins the "workgroup" group.

Also, you must make sure you have a username and password tht match on both computers if you want to be able to share network resources.

Re: networking windows xp and 2000

bubba, this sometimes happen with xp. I suggests updating the service packs (sp) on both win 2000 and xp. Win 2000 latest sp is sp4, while xp latest sp is sp1.
(win xp sp2 is due out pretty soon). Just go to the TOOLS option at top of INTERNET EXPLORER menu and click on windows update for each computer.

Then disable any firewall on each pc, if it's on, especially win xp internal firewall. Please post here what happen to your computers next. thanks 8) :
