Limited or No Connectivity on Laptop
My laptop has limited or no connectivity when I try to connect it with my usual connection although it has FULL Signal Strength. However when it is able to connect to this "default" connection that I cannot access from my own room, it works - with really low Signal Strength.

I really need this laptop to have internet connection so that I can do my school research
So please, if you can, help me.

Limited or no connectivity often means that your workstation/laptop can see a network but is not getting an IP assignment from a DHCP server. Since you mention full strength, I am assuming that you are using Wireless. If you go to a command prompt and type (on Windows machines) ipconfig /all the computer will report its status. If you have an IP address that starts with 169, chances are you are not getting the IP address from a DHCP server. Any way you slice it, you need a valid IP address, subnet mask, gateway address and DNS server address to browse the net. Who's router are you trying to connect through? Do you have access to it and can you find out what its status is? Perhaps its DHCP server is not running. You may need to look at reconfiguring it. Did it ever work? If so, perhaps it just needs to be restarted.

    Cheers,
    Tom

One of the biggest things I see that cause this on wireless, is that the security isn't set up correctly. Could it be that in the room with low signal, you're close enough to someone else's router to get signal from them, and you have that one set up correctly, but in the room with full signal, you're on a different router, and the security setting is wrong? Try going to the Advanced wireless settings, and deleting the network you're connecting to. Then you can connect again and enter the security key.

You should check the documentation for the Router. The first question that I have for you is did it ever work? If so, then the steps you take may be a bit different than if it is a new installation, but, not necessarily. Look for the model number of the router and Google the Manufacturer name, model number and keywords like documentation, download and support. This kind of search can get you to the information that will help you to learn how to log into the router and check its configuration settings to make sure that it is compatible with your requirements. Generally speaking, when you get a message like the one that drives this thread, it is telling you that you are not getting your expected DHCP assigned IP address information. Perhaps the reason why is that the router is improperly configured. If the router was supplied by the ISP (Internet Service Provider) then they should be able to assist you with configuration details and troubleshooting.

    Regards,

    Tom
