I cannot access to internet but the internet connection is good

Hi there,

I have a problem, and I have no clue about it.

I have a wireless internet connection and I don't know what happened but I can not access to the internet. The wireless connection is fine, there is the green icon saying that the signal is perfect, but when I open the internet explorer windows it shows like if I do not have internet connection. Somebody told me about the IP address, which I tried to renew it but I believe it did not work or maybe I did it wrong. Could somebody help me??????? I am not a computer specialist...

This may be a very dumb question, but I do have one for you.

Are you using a laptop computer? I have a Toshiba laptop and along the front edge of the keyboard there is a slider switch that activates the Wireless protocols.

Also, check your network settings to verify that your wireless network is activated.

I have a similar problem. My 4 yr old laptop can't access the internet either directly from the modem or with the wireless router. It indicates a 169 ip address and I can't do any configsys checks because it says media disconnected.

Any clues on how to make this work?

NOTE: This could be caused by something you may have done or something someone told you to do after the problem started. If you have changed any network settings like adding an IP address make sure you let us know otherwise we'll be wasting time. NOTE END!

Having a wireless connection from your PC to your ROUTER DOES NOT mean your ROUTER has a good connection to the INTERNET. Make sure your DSL modem or Cable Modem has all the correct lights solid then re-power your ROUTER by pulling out the power plug for a few seconds and replugging it in again. Then reconnect your laptop to the wireless.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTED TO YOUR ROUTER AND NOT YOUR NEIGHBORS ROUTER by checking the Network name or SSID.

Once you verified you are connected to the wireless router (should say connected in Task Tray by system clock) do the following:
1) Select Start | Run | CMD *Press Ok*
2) Type: tracert 64.233.169.147 *Press Enter*

Please copy and paste information into thread.

Something I can be on the Modem. If modem is not working properly , you cannot connect to the internet even your wireless router is ok.

now you got the signal from wireless router . That mean your wireless router is still ok. But If your router configuration is wrong , you still can't connect to internet ..

check your router configuration and modem.
