soul music

okay so i heard an old song on the radio and the genre sounded like it was soul.
it was a guys voice but the only lyrics i remember from the chorus went like
"take time to tell me you really need me"

i think it was a well known song back then, too.
if anyone knows, can you please tell me whos sings it? or the title of the song?
