When I was little I had my mom rent this movie for me all the time. It was about a young girl who was kind of a social outcast. her family was poor and she didnt have any real friends except her dog. She and the dog did everything together. I know that at one point her mom made her go to a party and the dog is sitting on top of a hill watching the party and the young girl. I also know that one night the dog dies (attacked by a wolf or something maybe Im making that part up in my head...but regardless the dog dies.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
