Needle in a Haystack

Hi, i need some 'serious' help with a film, which i think is an 80's one, i've being trying to track it down... since well, God was a boy!

The story goes something like this: a young boy/teenager gains special powers - with his EYES - after conducting a science/laboratory experiment. He now has the ability to move objects with his eyes, including humans, cool! I can kind of remember a young Andrew Macarthy/John Cussack making a cameo appearance near the end but i've checked out their history and i've had no luck in that department.

I was no more than 7 or 8 years old when i first saw it (mid 80's) and even now, after all these years, i can recall those unforgettable childhood feelings that i used to get everytime i watched it.
I have never given-up hope of finding out the title of the film, and i think stumbling across this site will finally end my twenty-year old quest to discover the name of this elusive film.

Finally, the only other info i can provide is that it's based around the boy's high school/college life, i think, that's it i'm afraid.
Please if any one in this world (or any other) can help me i will be eternally grateful.
Thank you, Loucas
