the movie is an old kids movie in the early 90's about five kangaroo like mythical creatures who posses powers of the five elements of the earth water fire wind etc.

This movie is "Warriors of Virtue", and it's one of my ABSOLUTE favorite movies! My brother and I would rent this all the time!
It's about a boy who falls into this magical world where 5 kangaroos, called the Warriors of Virtue, fight against Komodo, the main villain, and his men. They each possess an element and the boy finds out he plays an important part later on in the movie.
Very highly recommended by me! Hope this helps!
