| looking for a movie title
Hello Ask Desk,
I am searching for the name of a movie I saw on television. I don't know if it was made for tv or was it in the movie theatre at one time. Well, here goes. I saw the movies on tv between 1976 and 1982 on television. I remember a woman, who I thought was Susan Sarandon, trying to convince this man she was his wife. The woman was living in his house, buy groceries, etc. like any wife would but he kept asking her, "where is my wife?". Of course, the woman replied, "I am your wife..dear..are you okay or something." Many people died in this movie only to reveal, at the end of the movie, they were not actually dead at all. The towns people were a part of a grand plot to get this husband to reveal where his dead wife was.
At one point in the movie, maybe at the end, I remember the husband going to a car where he supposedly left his real wife's body. The body began moving when they lifted up the tarp covering the body. My sister and I were freaking out! The ending was a surprise because the butcher and all the townspeople where araound town waving and being sociable. My sister and I couldn't believe the ending..we were left puzzled. WE think the husband was trying to silence the people, around town, because they were getting closer to the truth about his crime.
